5K Run/Walk Planned to Help Celebrate 50th Anniversary

RALEIGH, N.C. (January 29, 2013) — Runners and walkers are invited to help celebrate Wake Tech’s 50th anniversary at the first annual Road Scholars 5K Run/Walk. The race kicks off at 8:00 a.m. at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus on Saturday, March 16. The entry fee is $25 before February 28th, $30 if registration is submitted between March 1 and March 15th, and $35 on race day. The entry fee includes a tee shirt. Registration is available online at http://roadscholars.waketech.edu. Proceeds benefit the student scholarship fund at Wake Tech Community College.

“We’re excited to have a healthy activity as part of our 50th anniversary celebration. We also think it’s a great way to involve the community,” says race director, Dr. Darryl McGraw.

The race is open to avid runners, walkers and 5K first-timers. Packet pick-up will take place on Friday, March 15th at the Northern Wake Campus. They will also be available when registration opens at 6:30 a.m. on race day. Free parking is available in Parking Lot B at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus, 6600 Louisburg Road, Raleigh. Water will be available along the course, and refreshments, music, and activities will be awaiting participants at the finish line. Awards will be presented to the top three men and the top three women overall, as well as the top two finishers in various age categories.

Rex Healthcare is the platinum sponsor for the event. Other sponsors include Dickey’s Barbeque Pit, the town of Knightdale, and Wake Stone Corporation.  The official Road Scholars 5K logo was designed by Wake Tech student Christopher Parker.
